Your death shall build no fortress here,
Where I have underdug the fields
And scattered fearless batter rams.
Your death shall build no fortress here.

We'll flee its path and seek refuge
In forest moss, lush greenery
And climb the high trees, if we must.
Your death shall build no fortress here.

To shun mankind, we'll become birds
To sing each other soothing tunes;
To make forget the howling herd.
Your death shall build no fortress here.

And when we'll die, then let them search;
Collect our souls, they'll find them not.
Far from those wolves, again, we'll perch.
Your death shall build no fortress here.
About not wanting to surrender loved ones to their end, inspired by Dylan Thomas's work on death, including also the element of repetition.

I enjoy this. I love how the characters are bound to each other yet free of the world.

no problem. The imagery was fantastic, it's nice to see a poem that is really creative and cleverly written, not just about depression or misery.

I agree depression and misery are often stressed to much and too singularly, especially in amateur poetry.

it does worry me that some people seem to think that poetry only really involves one emotion. I tend to stick to prose more often though, i end up annoying myself if I write poetry most of the time.
